Founded by Indonesia’s talented designer Chitra Subyakto, Sejauh Mata Memandang is known for its timeless designs and locally-sourced craftsmanship. Sejauh manufactures its textiles with an old technique one at a time, each with different story portrayed in the patterns. This season, Sejauh introduced their latest collection through an event and exhibition titled “Jakarta Kita“. Collaborating with Dewan Kerajinan Nasional Daerah, the exhibition pays a tribute to the old ladies at Rumah Susun Marunda. Placing at Jakarta Creative Hub, the event exhibits works of art of local craftswomen in Jakarta in a form of batik and other handcrafted products.

Coinciding with the release of Sejauh’s new collection, designer Chitra Subyakto is showcasing a various batik fabric that composed of new motifs called “Batik Semanggi” that seemingly inspired by Jakarta’s famous Semanggi Bridge. Traditional batik canting methods are applied to the cloth and also dyed in vibrant color palettes of green, red, yellow, and navy blue. These fabrics are then translated into a form of scarves, clothes, and pillow cases.

The “Jakarta Kita” exhibition runs from April 18 until May 13 and opens from Monday to Saturday. For further information, you can take a look at Sejauh Mata Memandang Instagram and make sure to purchase their new collection.
