Just a week ago, we had the chance to access the under-construction site of 2nd AEON Mall to look around. Claimed to be the biggest mall in Indonesia to date, this AEON Mall will have its Grand Opening on September 30th this year. Located at Jakarta Garden City (JGC) in East Jakarta, the mammoth entertainment mall is going to stun many visitors as it will feature the biggest ferris wheel with the most gondolas, biggest cinema studio, and biggest ice skating rink (1,800 meter square) in Indonesia.
Construction design done by a Japanese architecture, the Japanese company has broken first time records in Indonesia. This JGC AEON Mall is the first entertainment mall to utilize solar panels and takes eco-friendliness quite seriously as it uses LED lights and dimming control system to save a lot more energy. Inside the establishment, you may find a spacious culinary area with a striking terrace concept featuring Sushi King from Malaysia for the first time in Indonesia along with Kokoro Mazesoba and Popolamama.
Aside from its impressive culinary area, it provides an amusement area for children in collaboration with tennant FANPEKKA featuring a magical Finnish small town concept with the official support by the Embassy of Finland. Its ice skating rink is complemented by stores like Adidas and Sports Station along with restaurants like Sukiya and Imperial Kitchen.
Free Wi-Fi is promised by the company, but we doubt it will be close to satisfactory. Based on our experience spending time in big malls, the free Wi-Fi either has unbearably slow speed or is dominated by other ‘free’ internet providers. With the Sentul City and Delta Mas AEON Malls also under development, we hope they will deliver in proportion to the blueprint.
