The #NEIGHBOURTEAM embarked on a journey to #RateTheCity with illustrator Philip Ponk. Together with Converse, the free-spirited and audacious Philip strolled around J town and pegged the monumental Jakarta with #RatedOneStar stickers. We got the chance to follow Philip’s wander with his anti-hero persona, Philip rated the city with his bravura.
First stop was his expert territory, Tanjung Priok, where he was born and raised. A humble neighbourhood barbershop in Rawa Badak was the first destination of the exploration and stickers were flying. Then, Philip moved on to a random neighbourhood nearby and took a ride on the traditional crossing boat, ‘Getek’, a forgotten part of Jakarta’s rich cultural aspects. The Tanjung Priok journey was completed on a cargo shipment area, a distinctive aspect which defines Tanjung Priok.
The journey continued and the next thing we know, we were at Pasar Baru. Philip basically blasted off and explored the legendary and far-flung marketplace. The excursion ended at Jakarta Old Town (Kota Tua) area where we had the chance to chat with Philip while he was waiting for the sprightly photoshoot session.
Philip who had just wrapped up his work as an illustrator in Asian Games 2018 shared a lot of his stories and experiences. As an avid One Star fan, he considered himself as a lucky bastard when he was chosen to represent One Star, an anti-hero of Converse‘s super popular lineup, All Star. The classic silhouette, which is blended with bold shades attracted him to represent the carefree and positive persona of One Star-a translation of his personality.
A true believer of ‘rules are made to be broken’, Philip who recently showcased his artworks at an exhibition for Elders Garage finally rated the journey 400 out of 500, cuz why the hell not. Due to the limited time we didn’t able to explore his hometown of Warakas, Tanjung Priok, but maybe Philip has rated it without our knowledge. Nonetheless overall the trip had made him able to channel his inner vandal desire.
We have also made a dedicated video to compile the lengthy journey of #RateTheCity, hence you can have a clearer visual of what went down during the thrilling excursion around West and Central Jakarta. Check it out only on our Instagram TV.
