An artist initiative in Jakarta since 2000, ruangrupa has always been closely related to the world of local music. Almost every exhibition program organized by them opens with a showcase of music performances, from bands to DJs. Furthermore, as an art space, they often supports musicians or bands in organizing a mini concert with a distinctive artistic approach. This is one of the reasons why, after years of building a solid relationship with the music scene, ruangrupa finally started ruangrupa Records which led to a music festival called ruangrupa Music Festival or can be shortened as RRREC Fest. The records goal is to find, produce, promote, distribute, and maintain continuity of creative ideas as well as the talents of local musicians, bands, and performers, and that is what happened with the ongoing RRREC Fest.
RRREC Fest became a celebration of the developments in the world of music and contemporary art in the country, in neighboring countries, and also throughout the world. This music festival is held with an awareness to open a platform for the creation of a meeting point and an event of its own, also to open up a strong network with the musicians, bands, and performers, from the Southeast Asia region and surrounding areas. This festival is one of the public mediation models as a form of ruangrupa joint effort with young artists to contribute fresh and inspiring ideas through a music event for the youth, music enthusiasts and lovers, as well as the citizens of this city in general. This festival comes as a statement of the importance of alternative spirit, not only in music but also in other cultural practices. This spirit will always be open space for the birth of creation with fresh and inspiring ideas.
All performances of musicians or bands will be recorded, either with audio and visual package. That is why the festival is called RRREC Fest. In contrast to the previous ones, this year the festival will be held outside of Jakarta, in the camping area known as Tanakita Camping Ground in Sukabumi. The lucky audience will feel the experience of watching a three-day music festival which is packed with a variety of interesting sub-programs, without leaving the premises at the end of the day. The music program this time will be held at three different stages, followed by a DJ and multimedia performances, film screenings, workshops, talk shows, bazaar, and other kinds of activities at the venue.
