This autumn and winter 2014 the Menʼs Authentic stays true to form undeniably British, indisputably Fred Perry, the Authentic Collection is the spirit or originality. The ranges dedication to using tartan in bold modern ways has seen us register the Fred Perry Tartan with the “scottish tartan register”. Initially based on the Murray tartan, a nod to Andy Murray becoming Wimbledon champion in 2013, taking over from Fred himself, the tartan has been further developed by their design team taking inspiration from their iconic twin tipping dimensions and heritage colours.

To mark its introduction to the Authentic Collection and the world, the Fred Perry Tartan appears on styles ranging from its classic use in the button-down oxford shirts and jacket linings to more directional paneled shirting and polo shirt styles. Iconic British DPM camo has been applied by print and cut and sew panels to signature Fred Perry silhouettes, shirting and polo shirts, fishtail parkaʼs, button-down gingham, and oxford shirts.

The colour palette of muted tones with contrasting colour pop Laurel Wreaths and twin tipping was inspired by the attitude and adoption of camo by our associative youth subcultures, there is a DIY feel to this mix and match approach to fabrications and techniques. Camo can be seen overprinted and cut and sewn into ginghams and checks. Black watch tartan, Stewart tartan, and black Stewart tartans have been subverted, contrasted with each other, played with in oversized abstract scales and proportions, garment dyed, and experimented with in bias-cut and straight cut panels.

A contemporary take on more iconic sportswear styles can also be seen, twin tipping, pique and tricot fabrics and key Fred Perry styles the Fred Perry Shirt and the Tennis Bomber are used alongside heritage sportswear details such as colour-blocking, the mix and match approach has been taken to these iconic styles to modernize them and adopt the DIY attitude of British youth culture.

Standout knitwear items include Classic Aran knits and Donegal-effect yarns that have been brought up to date with contrast and sometimes oversized colour pop twin tipping and textured paneling. A selection of lambswool styles appear to have an oversized pique textured pattern, a nod to the iconic fabric of the Fred Perry Shirt. Recognizable Fred Perry styles such as the button-down oxford have been given a new lease of life in herringbone and corduroy based ginghams while classic outerwear styles have been updated and given a new warmth with a quilting effect, the Tennis Bomber, Gilet, Tennis Bomber Sweat, and Sports Crew Sweat are all seen in the new fabrication.

This season also sees the return of Drakeʼs of London materials adopted into the range, iconic Drakeʼs prints are married with classic Fred Perry colours to deepen the collaborative element and create prints that were exclusive to Fred Perry. Shirt details and pocket construction were taken from pocket-square placements inspired by bespoke, mod-shop customized shirts. Accessories complement all aspects of the collection, British DPM camo has been applied to rucksacks, canvas totes, millerain knapsacks, duffel bags, and millerain zip top totes.

Waxed quilting can be seen on utility rucksacks with brass hardware, zip top totes and quilted barrel bags. Drakeʼs of London patterns add detail to billfold wallets, cardholders, and reversible leather belts. A ski story to complement the new outerwear spans Fred Perry emblazoned bobble beanie hats and ski scarves. The Fred Perry Tartan updates the classic woven tartan scarf. The Fred Perry autumn and winter 2014 Menʼs Authentic Collection will be available at all Authentic Shops across Jakarta, Indonesia by the end of this month.
