Last Thursday on January 22nd 2015, there was a tremendous excitement in the hall of Foundry No.8 building at Sudirman Central Business District. It was Mac DeMarco! The Canadian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer came to throw a live concert in Jakarta, Indonesia for the first time. All this thing happened, of course, thanks to the golden hands by the members of STUDIORAMA and Prasvana. It was exactly two days before the band play for St Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Singapore. The independent event organizer from South Jakarta managed to bring in the Canadian band for a special night concert and to their fans in Indonesia.

Mac DeMarco is band with the genre “jizz-jazz”, which is a self made genre. They have a fairly large fanbase in Indonesia, and it could be seen from enthusiastic visitors that came to Foundry No.8 last week. As to open the memorial night, STUDIORAMA and Prasvana decided to pointed Jirapah, and independent bands from Jakarta to perform. The band Jirapah is born simply out of being fans of music and a curiosity for composing. The band has been active in New York City’s music scene for some time now. Masterminded by Ken Jenie and Mar Galo, the band really focuses on experimenting inside and outside the studio. The music is often raw, heavy on the reverb and delay, but in its core the two’s love for good, simple tunes really shines through. With their efforts they hope to contribute their own sensibilities to the colorful world of music.

Back to the main event, the first song that was sung by Mac DeMarco is “Salad Days”. For those of you who do not know, this song is a hit single from the same titled album, which was released in 2014. The band stage act were very exciting and also ridiculous which somehow also attract the local audience. Along with those, the vocalist often throws his dirty jokes and slob sentences who invites laughter among the crowd. There is also in another time, all the spectators screamed and asked for the selfie when Mac tries to jump into the crowd just before he played their last song. We could say that Mac Demarco’s stage action can be considered very successful, and the enthusiasm that built upon the audience able to make the Canadian band did an encore by simply played “Enter Sandman” by Metallica.

It was definitely hell of a concert! This is Mac Demarco first visit to Indonesia, and we are pretty sure that the event is very memorable for them and also the audience. For more information about their playful presence, unhinged, and at times wild performance on stage and bizarrely cheeky videos, feel free to visit their official site here.
