Tompi Lights and Shadows Photography Exhibition

There are many ways you can do to help people in need, for example, with creating an exhibition. Perhaps this is what the IDFILM have done with their community of analogue photography. The Indonesian Analog Photography Enthusiast Community is here to celebrate their first anniversary and held their very first photo exhibition called “Lights and Shadows” at the Negev Art Gallery and Bar in City Plaza Building Ground Floor. This place is located at Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jakarta from May 21th to July 31th 2015. According to its committee, there are 32 great black and white photos taken using only analog cameras as well as print processed manually or hand printed of 18 photographers who are members of the community, one of which is the singer Teuku Adifitrian or popularly known as Tompi. The photos that are available in store are sold ranging from IDR 5 million Rupiah to IDR 25 million Rupiah. According to Mr. Tompi, he is willing to be part of the community because they preserve the art of analogue photography or film photography.

Another exhibitor, Abiprayadi Riyanto added that the cameras used to take photos were not limited to a certain camera. The photographers used rangefinder, SLR, medium-format or large-format cameras. In addition to those values, this exhibition is also made to help people with cleft lips and palate in order to get proper medical surgery. Most of the proceeds from the sale of these photos will also be given as charity to Gentur Cleft Foundation, a non-profit foundation initiated by some Jakarta-based doctors which will helps families that could not afford the expensive surgery. Furthermore, Tompi who also works as a surgeon for his day job also stated, “Through this support, we hope the children with cleft lips can be immediately operated and have a better smile.” Through this “Lights and Shadows” exhibition, the IDFILM community hopes that young Indonesian would love and appreciate the world of analog photography.
