Tri Handoko was born in Blitar, East Java. He began his career by studying at the Institute of Teaching dressmaking of Susan Budiharjo in 1989. In the same year, he also participated in the Fashion Design Competition held by Sarinah Magazine and won the Runner-Up trophy for Casual Wear category. After completing his studies in Institute of Teaching dressmaking of Susan Budiharjo, Handoko decided to continue his studies at School of Visual Arts, Australia, majoring in Fashion Design. In 1992, Handoko back to his homeland in Indonesia and started his professional career. Until 1997, he worked as an intern for several leading Indonesian fashion designers such as Alex AB, Biyan, and Space. A few years later, Tri Handoko decided to start his own label called “FRANTHO by Tri Handoko”. But everything becomes more appropriate and better after he changed his label in accordance with his own name, Tri Handoko back in 2002. In 2004, Tri Handoko awarded as “The Upcoming Designer” by Nokia Fashion Award 2004 and i the same year, he was also awarded as “The Most Favourite Designer” by Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival 2004. He currently has three labels under his belt, namely Tri Handoko, Austere by Tri Handoko, and 3 by Tri Handoko.
