We are entering the month of October, and it is right time for Indonesian local label (X)S.M.L to introduce their latest collection for winter 2015 called “SOMBRE”. The word Sombre has echoed in the mind of its Creative Director Jun Mardian ever since he read them years ago in Catcher in the Rye book by J.D. Salinger. They are not delivered from the mouths of any of his characters, but they appear again and again like an anthemic reflection on existence. According to him, the winter 2015 collection from (X)S.M.L, “SOMBRE” is now available with a stronger silhouette and a darker color palette. This palette evokes remembrance of the individual’s dark moments from their past, pushing them to marvel at how they conquered those circumstances and emerged victorious. Instead of sadness, the goal is to embrace those events that made each of us the success we are today. Each one of us has a story, which may be filled with mistakes, failures, and regrets. But maybe because of those shortcomings you began to put on many layers to cover your own weaknesses or vulnerabilities.
Interestingly, all of us have something in our past that we wish had not happened. As we get older, we learn and grow from mistakes and pain. Without hurt, we might not have learned how to love. Without failure, we might not have learned the meaning of being humble, and the list goes on. Ultimately, if we did not go through bad experiences, we might not have any stories, memories, and events that have shaped us to be who we are today. We cannot hold back the dawn, as they say, and it seems that much of what plagues us in life is related to how we choose to handle the present. Life is certainly shaped by how we face the hand we are dealt, just or unjust as it may be, but also on the decisions that we have made, both good and bad. So instead of being put down by your past, embrace it, remove your natural tendency to put on protective layers, and instead be free. It is only by being free that we can completely live life to the fullest. The entire winter 2015 collection by (X)S.M.L, “SOMBRE” is now available online at their official site or offline though several official stores of (X)S.M.L. You can also watch the official video campaign created by talented director Narya Abhimata and photographer Hilarius Jason. Music is supported by Gagarin.
