After one month hiatus, the dramatization of the life of British Royal Family, The Crown is finally back with the second season. Released on December 8th, the long-awaited season was welcomed by a lot of excitements and expectations from fans around the world. The ten episodes still revolve around the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) and his husband Prince Philip (Matt Smith) in the 1960s.

In terms of the story, it covers several British historical events such as the Suez Canal crisis, the visit of John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy to London, and Prince Philip’s Tour of the Commonwealth. Complemented by Foy’s astounding acting as the Queen, this season features much more complex dramas and conflicts. Both in the monarchy or private turmoils between the Queen and Prince Philip over alleged infidelity scandal.

They are also able to maintain the exceptional cinematography that the show possess since season one. Endless landscape shots of United Kingdom’s landmarks and sceneries and extreme close-ups complemented by the acting abilities of the casts. In addition, the depictions of the royals are quite historically accurate with the right amount of fabrication put into the storyline.

Created by Peter Morgan for Netflix, the show itself has been critically acclaimed as it received many prestigious awards this year. It has been crowned with the Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Drama and Claire Foy also has been awarded with an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama.

However, it is such an unfortunate news as season two is the last season for Foy. Netflix will cast another actress in order to portray the older self of Queen Elizabeth II. Hence, to enjoy Foy’s last show, you can put the show in your Netflix and Chill’s list.
