Gallery Rachel in Jakarta is pleased to present “Empowering Anxiety”, a solo exhibition of Erwin Windu Pranata’s latest works. In this exhibition, Pranata reveals the next phase of his conceptual metamorphosis and further solidifies his identity as a hybrid artist. In this exhibition, Pranata exposes one of his greatest strengths: the ability to deftly weave a paradoxical incorporation of both universal ideas and critiques, and an undeniably crucial personal element to his works.
The exhibition “Empowering Anxiety” displays a significant development and differentiation with Ewing’s mighty beanz works from his previous play me series. Because of this, it would be appropriate to discuss his play me works first. The works in “Empowering Anxiety” still do vividly display works in the form of capsules that are almost a trademark of Ewing’s artworks. It must be clearly stated, though, that from the beginning it is not aspects of form that Ewing challenges in his work, but rather the shape of a capsule as carrying symbolic potential.
