For the annual event of Indonesian Kustom Kulture Fest 2014 or “Kustomfest“, Cetul Leather Art from Yogyakarta presents two hand tooled leather seats inspired by “Santa Muerte” and the God of the underworld in traditional Javanese and Balinese mythology “Batara Kala”. Dedicated to large motorcycles, these leather seats were made using cow leather with a thickness of 6mm and use only certain parts of its leather due to a specific reason.
With the thickness as well as special techniques, Cetul Leather Art can carved the skin to a depth of 4.5mm without being worry that the skin will tear due to heavy daily use. Once the skin is finished being carved, then he entered the next stage, namely pan or wrap the frame with leather upholstery that has been carved. Wrapping the pan that has arches on all sides using leather skin with a thickness of 6mm is not easy. It requires a long journey before he found technique that is much easier.
For the bottom of the pan, Cetul Leather Art decided to used a leather skin with a thickness of 2mm. For the pan area, he used an iron plate with a thickness of 3mm that whole side was bent into a supplementary force. Perhaps this is an exaggeration considering other brands just used regular iron plate with a thickness of about 1.5mm. Once the pan neatly wrapped, he can entered the coloring stage (he added special liquid so that the colors does not fade). After all of that, then he begin the process of sewing. He used a leather skin with a thickness of 1.2mm leather skin which is later being cut into a width of 5mm.
