Obtaining recognition for his debut and graduation collection “Out Like A Light”, the Raffles College graduate and a young talented Malaysian designer known as Moto Guo came out with his very own label just two years ago. Fresh in the scene, the man sets itself apart with androgynous silhouettes on conventional items. Bold and wacky, the collections are quirky without being clown-like. It is attention-grabbing but still wearable. He recently took part in Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week and showcased his spring and summer 2016 collection dubbed as “But Do Not Blame Lulu”. Retaining his signature oversized silhouettes, the new collection introduced new elements that are surprising yet refreshing. This collection draws its inspirations from his personal experience with a self deprecating sense of humour. Moto Guo infuses his ideas along with an array of different materials and styles to present the ready-to-wear pieces.
To some it may be a fashion disaster, but to eyes of international buyers it is something brilliant. The 3D textures, Tumblr-esque prints, and faded colour scheme, has been devoted to telling stories through his designs to share his emotions and journey in the life and career. The funky styling and modelling hit all the right spots, think a nerdy college freshman set in the hippie 90s.
