MONDO by the Rooftop is truly a hidden gem amidst South Jakarta’s everyday tumults. The cafe was opened by two Japanese friends Shunsuke Izumimoto and Tomoko Nishikawa with a sole objective: to make Indonesian youngsters appreciate their culture more. That is why Mondo regularly held an event, not only limited to music gigs from various genres but also art exhibitions, movie screenings and poetry readings from local to international acts.
This scanty place provides appealing decorations and lighting, particularly in their outdoor area which surely will please your eyes while you enjoy their selections of menu. Another thing that makes MONDO special is the humble and intimate atmosphere they radiate. MONDO may be far from lavishness, but that is what makes it truly shines. You can hang out and have fun with your friend without having to worry about the snobbish and judgmental nature of South Jakartans youngsters. Almost every night we can see diverse clicks of subcultures gathered here, from hipsters to normies, clubbers to metalheads, even weeaboos and k-popers. Oh and did we mention that they also serve Anggur Merah Cap Orang Tua here?
You can visit MONDO by the Rooftop in Rossi Musik Fatmawati 4th floor from Wednesday to Sunday. It’s nested in one of the sketchiest buildings in the neighbourhood with all the graffiti, but we can assure you it is definitely worth your trip.
