Pawaka is an eyewear label conceived by Indonesian model, actress and environmental activist Fahrani Empel. Meaning Fire and Energy in Sanskrit language, the brand draws inspiration from Fahrani’s view of modernity and nature as well as her heritage of Dayak tribes of Borneo, Indonesia.

The atelier’s glasses are handcrafted in France and Italy. Pairing up Mazzucchelli acetate or solid aluminium with Carl Zeiss vision sunlens. All pieces are named in Indonesian numerical order as a way for Fahrani to pay homage to her homeland.

Since Pawaka launched its first collection in September 2015, the eyewear design has been well received by international media and editorial campaigns, even endorsed by major celebrities such as Rihanna and Lady Gaga. The brand was also introduced by Vogue Italy in their list of ‘200 Emerging Designers to Watch in 2015’. See their complete collection here.
