A professional Italian football club based in Rome known as Associazione Sportiva Roma or popularly referred to as simply AS Roma will travel to Indonesia for the first time this summer as part of the pre-season tour in July 2015. According to their official site, the team who finished runners up in Serie A last season will kick-off preparations for the 2015 and 2016 season with matches against Real Madrid on July 18th and Manchester City on July 21st as part of the 2015 International Champions Cup Australia. The team will then fly to Jakarta, Indonesia to host the AS Roma Indonesia Day 2015 on July 25th with initiatives designed to bring the fans of the club closer than ever before to the team. Upon arrival on July 24th, the club will host a media conference with Coach Rudi Garcia and select players. The activities on July 25th will begin in the morning with a coaching clinic and photo and signing session for local children.
Later that evening, AS Roma will host an intra-squad exhibition match at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in conjunction with Indonesian event company NineSport. The event will open to fans that acquire tickets or are invited as part of local charity outreach. The evening will feature several Indonesian personalities participating in the presentation and activities. According to James Pallota who is the President of football club AS Roma, he explained, “We are thrilled to bring Roma to Indonesia for the first time. We have a very large and passionate following in Indonesia and it is great to give our fans an opportunity to see our team and players live. We are confident that our visit, along with new customized media initiatives in Indonesia, will help grow our local fan base even further.” While the popular midfielder Radja Naiggolan added, “I am very excited about the news that AS Roma will go to Indonesia because I will have the chance to visit this beautiful country again. I visited two years ago for the first time ever and I said at the time that I loved it and now I will be able to go again.”
Upon the delighted news, Russel Miracle who is the Head of Special Projects for Roma Club Indonesia further explained his enthusiasm, “It is beyond any excitement I have been through. AS Roma is my childhood idol and this will be my first time to see the Giallorossi in my country. No words can express the feeling. I am very happy for sure. Fans were asking me whether the visit had been confirmed, almost every day. Finally, it is official.” And when the club asked about how passionate the Indonesian fan base of AS Roma, he explained that the fans in Indonesia support the team with exactly the same style as the fans in Italy, especially Rome. In his viewing parties, the fans chant and announce the goal and everything with Italian language. They are pure football fans, not some glamour football fans. Furthermore, he also announces about the possibility of creating a similar atmosphere in Gelora Bung Karno Stadium as the fans will put the screen in the north position, using a compass, and then they will watch the matches from south side.
