Efficiency and practicality have been the two aspects that are being adopted by some particular members of urban society recently. Aspiring to live in a less-complicated way of living, residing in a compact house is one of the ways to keep everything simple and uncomplicated. Especially with the diminished amount of land for housing and the rising price of houses are contributing to this trend.

Located in Bintaro, South Tangerang, Kiri’s House is one of the examples of how some people want to keep everything light and manageable. Even with the size of 90 meters squared, it is still a normal and functional house. Built in 2009 by Atelier Riri, the construction was under the supervision of Project Director Novriansyah Yakub.

For the architect, the shape wasn’t their main priority in the first place. Frankly, it is a livable white box with doors and windows. The architecture design adopts the fusion of clean contemporary minimalistic and streamlined industrial styles, which is basically timeless and enduring. The name ‘Kiri’ is also an analogy to represent the position of the house that looks like it is leaning to the left.

The living area on the first floor is an open space that is suitable with the owner’s preference. Even the bathroom isn’t separated from the main area, which is one of the unique aspects of the house. The furniture on the ground floor is movable furniture, which provides flexibility for space. Then, the private area, which consists of master bedroom, kid’s bedroom, and bathroom, is equipped with built-in furniture that matches the overall contemporary theme.
