Art Week 2017 had wrapped up their event last Sunday, nevertheless the unconventional and striking artworks would be a never ending discussion. This time, it is the ‘Noises – They Told Me to Bleed’ abstract painting by Paskalia Prameswari Wardhani. We had the chance to interview her yesterday and she spilled much details on the best artwork in the category of painting of Art Week 2017.
The main theme of the painting is light, particularly the individual revelation of the virtue of light as it was an extension on the main theme of Art Week 2017, Manakartala which is directly translated as light. However, the philosophy behind every scratch of the paint is meaningful and personal. Paskalia told us that the painting is the representation of her battle with negative lights that were covering her life previously. Her ‘darker’ part of life is her inspiration as she is regaining to be a better individual that is radiating her positive lights by expressing her broken self through this particular painting.
As for the technique, the Impasto method was performed on this artwork. The technique itself was a combination usage of brush and mainly palette knife which were stroked on acrylic and carved to create a three dimensional effect on the surface of the paint, hence the grainy texture can be felt by hand.
