We had discussed his life partner’s artworks, Mega Ykzir, last week, and surprisingly Mega’s husband, Mao Rachmansyah is also dedicating his professional life for arts. He started in 2011 as a graffiti artist in his hometown, Bandung. Conspicuously known as MIAO on Bandung’s street art scene, he is very much into character designs – particularly cats – which is strongly related to his street nickname. Nevertheless, the characters that he makes is constantly evolving into women characters and now recently Hobgoblin characters.
Despite the simultaneous changes, his signature in making graffiti is still strongly rooted. He only use CYMK color palette in creating his works. Digital painting is also included in his aesthetic as he started doing it in 2013. Just like the graffiti, live characters are also his muse in doing digital painting. Inspired by an Indonesian artist, Rudy Siswanto, his digital characters designs have portrait fictional theme because fantasy-subjected arts are his personal favorites. Mao also has his own signature customized brush on Photoshop for creating his designs.
