The most awaited annual event for all Indonesian denim enthusiasts, Wall of Fades 2017 has already ended and it certainly brought new experiences for all the visitors. Held in MVG Parking Lot Lotte Shopping Avenue, this year’s venue is twice bigger than last year’s as the number of tenants doubled up from 35 to whooping 70 including in food and beverages section.
With the theme of “In the Making of Denim“, 2017 is the grandest Wall of Fades so far. The exhibition was well-executed and bringing many educational values to visitors. All the crucial denim information was delivered in a comprehensive manner, making it easy for them to learn about denim and jeans in general. Many worn denims were also showcased in the well-placed displays along the entrance hall, making it more accessible for people to get a closer look at each piece.
As for the tenants, Wall of Fades 2017 has brought many existing loyal brands namely Sage, Oldblue Co., Elhaus, Aye Denim & Co., Warpweft Company, Voyej, as well as new tenants like Kamengski, Vearst Denim, Lucroux, Hourver Goods, United Hart!, Public Culture, Anders, Verv Denim and many more. All the tenants were varied, not only limited to denim but also streetwears and even womenswear. It didn’t stop there, the visitors were also pampered by the food and beverages offered by Pizza Place, 7 Speed Coffee, Three Folks and Buttermilk Chicken.
Many activities were presented throughout the event, one of them was the Outfit Contest presented by Neighbourlist and Wall of Fades 2017. It is the first outfit contest where the outfit of contestant is judged live on stage by selected panelists. Hosted by Jean Tora Thosan and Bhisma Diandra, the first round of the Outfit Contest consisted of 12 finalists.
These finalists were curated from more than 140 submissions and judged by Greg from Neighbourlist and Adit from Darahkubiru.Pahi. In the end, 6 finalists were chosen to pit against each other for the final round of the Outfit Contest on day three. Two special panelists including fashion stylist Melodya Lukita and fashion enthusiast Ade Habibie joined the final round to pick top 3 winners. The prizes for the top 3 winners are very unique: they can choose one item from one out of all the tenants in only 3 minutes. Congratulations for all winners, they truly deserved it.
To wind up all the festivities, a group of selected performers were set to perform and entertaining all the visitors: DROI, Ben Sihombing x Cindercella, El Gringo, Future Collective, KLAV + RL and J. Farabian to name a few. There was also a Flea Market established by Darahkubiru, selling preloved goods from the members of INDIGO – Indonesian Denim Group.
Despite some minor setbacks, INDIGO – Indonesian Denim Group, Darahkubiru, and Together Whatever as the collaboration partner of WOF really set a remarkable improvement on this year’s event. See the live report on their Instagram Page and we really can’t wait for what they will bring next year.
