To celebrate the month of love and its gloomy weather, we decided to bring you #NEIGHBOURTUNES Throwback Thursday edition with popular comedian group back in the 90s known as P Project. So what is good about them? Well they gain mass popularity back in 1993 when they released various single of musical parody via a debut album called “Oo…Lea…Leo!!”. But way before that glorious year, they were actually students from two majors university in Bandung, Universitas Padjajaran and Universitas Katolik Parahyangan. Padhayangan name was taken as to represent the two universities. The group was then established as a forum for talents and crazy ideas of its members, especially within their art project. Later they were known as comedian that relies on music to tell a story which is similar to cabaret.
P Project decided to be serious in music business when Denden Hermann decided to join the group back in 1994. Along with those decisions, they also became a part of national television, especially in SCTV for a thirty minutes show called Project P. Since then they become nationally known in the world of entertainment of Indonesia, especially in the comedy genre. But they did not stop being creative as they decided to present their second album called “Jilid 2”. For this album, they decided to used a similar formula and presented few hit singles such as “Kop Dan Headen” from popular song “Close To Heaven” by Color Me Badd, “Pingin Beken” from “Breathe Again” by Toni Braxton, and “Hemat” from “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes.
After all of those hits, P Project remains consistent to released several new albums until 1998 with an album called “Jilid 4”. This album could be said as the most memorable because it was released coincide with the World Cup and Asian financial crisis. “Lagunya Lagu Bola” or “La Copa De La Vida” by Ricky Martin became the instant hits for this album along with “Lagi Krismon” which is part of their response of the financial crisis that struck many Asian countries. Later the group’s personnel began to transverse into the various types of entertainment in the country and also began to promote their next generation of comedian under a group which we known as Project Pop.
