Nike and its entire global partner continue to celebrate the legacy of its Air Jordan 1 Retro, prepping the release of this “Shattered Backboard” edition. The colorway is inspired by the dunking abilities of Michael Jordan back in Trieste, Italy on 1986 where he took part in an exhibition game in which he shattered a backboard during a powerful slam dunk. To celebrate the only time Michael Jordan ever shattered a backboard in his career, Jordan Brand is releasing a special edition Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG dubbed as “Shattered Backboard”. This version of Air Jordan 1 Retro features a combination of of smooth and pebbled leather throughout the upper and swapping out the traditional Chicago Bulls red accents for orange to match the colors found on the jersey Jordan was wearing at the exhibition game. The entire Air Jordan 1 Retro OG “Shattered Backboard” edition will soon available at the Nike Indonesia Pacific Place store in Central Jakarta via its offline raffle system. According to the official Twitter account of Nike Indonesia, the shoe will be available to purchase this weekend on Saturday, June 27th 2015.
Air Jordan is a brand of shoes and athletic clothing designed, owned, and produced for Michael Jordan by Nike’s Jordan Brand subsidiary. The shoes, informally referred to in the plural as Jordans or simply Js were first produced for Michael Jordan in 1984 and released for public consumption in 1985. The Air Jordan were made to play basketball but in modern days people have actually bought this shoes for fashion. There are people that collect Jordans all over the world. With the Air Jordan 1 was first produced for Michael Jordan in 1984, it was designed by Peter Moore in a red and black colorway to match the uniform of the Chicago Bulls, the team for which Michael Jordan played. This red and black color-way was later outlawed by NBA Commissioner David Stern for having very little white on them. Michael Jordan would wear the shoes anyway, and each time he stepped on the court with the Air Jordan 1, he would be fined five thousand dollars. Nike used this as a promotional tool in advertisements hinting that the shoes gave an unfair competitive advantage and that whoever wore them had a certain edginess associated with outlaw activities. Nike would later create a colorway with red, white, and black which would be worn by Jordan for most of the 1985 and 1986 season. The Air Jordan I which was originally released on the market from 1985 to 1986 now is being re-released in the 2015 as to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
