No doubt one of the most recognizable icons of Indonesia, Bir Bintang recently released their latest campaign in conjunction with the celebration of seventy years independence anniversary of Indonesia dubbed as “Cheers Bangga Indonesia”. Through this campaign, the number one beer company in Indonesia shared hundred important reasons why you should be proud of Indonesia, such as kopi luwak that is known as the best coffee in world, a book novel by Pramoedya Ananta Toer that being used as official comparative literature course material, and many more. Along with those, they also used this campaign as an overview for their special edition product. Bintang Beer or Bir Bintang is a brand of beer from Indonesia and is produced by PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk, part of Heineken. The beer is styled as an American Pale Lager, yellow in colour with an ideal serving temperature of 7 °C. The 4.7 per cent Pilsner has a malt and hop flavour. Its taste is often compared to Heineken, and the Bintang bottle is reminiscent of a Heineken bottle, indeed the red star or bintang on the bottle is the same as the one on the Heineken bottle. Bintang makes an alcohol free beer, packaged in a blue bottle and called Bintang Zero and a shandy-type product called Green Sands, a beer mixed with lime that has less than 1% alcohol. Construction of the brewery began in Surabaya in 1929 during Dutch colonial rule of Indonesia. In 1949, following Indonesian independence, the brewery was renamed as the Heineken’s Indonesian Brewery Company. In 1957 the Indonesian Government appropriated the brewery and retained control for the next ten years. In 1967 Heineken resumed operations of the brewery which was later renamed as “Multi Bintang Indonesia”. In 2011, Bintang Beer won the Gold Medal for Lager Beer Category and awarded as Champion Beer in 2011 at the world’s class beer competition and the Brewing Industry International Award in 2011 in London. Bir Bintang brand was awarded as Top 50 Most Valuable Indonesian Brand 2013 by Brand Finance.
