Combining his love for old computers and Star Wars trailers, New York-based Indonesian illustrator, Wahyu “Pinot” Ichwandardi has successfully remade one of Star Wars’ most iconic movie trailers, The Last Jedi. Using a 1984 Apple IIc computer, Dazzle Draw software, and Koala Pad tablet, The Last Jedi trailer is transformed into glowing green pixelated motion graphic that is unapologetically old school.
Pinot is a tech-relic enthusiast and an Apple fanboy. Among his 170 vintage computers, 30 of them are old Apple computers. His eagerness to recreate Star Wars trailers dates back to 30 years ago when he attempted to recreate Star Wars – A New Hope trailer using the same computer and software. Unfortunately, he failed to recreate it, as the making process was very complicated even up until he created his current masterpiece.
The vintage remake of The Last Jedi trailer took three weeks to make. He had to draw each layer using sheets of plastics to replicate every frame of the original trailer. In terms of storage, Pinot used 48 floppy disks consist of 288 graphics with total of 6MB in size.

Nevertheless, his hard work paid off as he received recognitions and appreciations not only from global netizens but also from Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi’s director and Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker on the movie. ‘Exotic’ and ‘alluring’ are the two words used in Rian’s tweet to describe the remake trailer. Meanwhile, Mark gave him a like on Pinot’s tweet regarding the work.
