Sun Down Circle has quickly established itself as the number one underground music event in Bali, hosting guests such as Mr Scruff, Young Marco, Ivan Smagghe and legend Roy Ayers. This event is now expanding into a full carnival event, taking over Potato Head Beach Club Bali for the whole day, spanning music, art, food and culture in true beach-side carnival settings. The free carnival will run on Sunday, April 5th 2015 from 11 o’clock in the morning until late. It will features a curated selection of international and local live acts and DJs playing on the beach club’s 500-meter emerald lawn overlooking the ocean. Guests include Philadelphia house legend King Britt, off-kilter production genius Maurice Fulton and New York disco pioneer Eric Duncan. There will also be a number of carnival food stations serving innovative Indonesian food, hosted by in-house restaurant Lilin. King Britt from United States
A pioneer of all things soulful, rhythmically textured and melodically provocative, Philadelphia native King Britt has a vast discography of original productions and remixes spanning over 20 years. As co-founder of the legendary house music label Ovum records and as the pioneer behind Philadelphia’s Sylk130 collective, King Britt has consistently innovated and impressed with his musical vision. As a DJ, King takes inspirations from the likes of David Mancuso, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Francois K, King playing right across a broad range of genres, using his experience and creativity to fit the demands of any dance floor.
Maurice Fulton from United States
One of house music’s true originals, they are delighted to be bringing Maurice Fulton to Bali for the first time. A production genius with releases on DFA, Nuphonic and Warp to name but a few, Fulton’s DJ sets are firmly routed in Loft and Garage classics that gave New York City its clubbing heritage. Eric Duncan from United States
Eric Duncan aka Dr Dunks is one half of legendary DJ duo Rub-n-Tug and also half of DFA’s Still Going. No matter the name though, the game remains unchanged. Peak time party provider. With partner Thomas Bullock, Eric Duncan threw the notorious late 20th century Rub-n-Tug disco parties in downtown Manhattan, turning on a new generation of revelers to the sleazy pleasures of disco and whatever else happened to be in their record bag.
Andras Fox from Australia
Peel back the leaves and discover Andras Fox, a Melbourne producer making tactile and imperfect electronic music. Inspired by primitive percussion, simple melodies and home recording, Andras Fox combines elements of house music and ethno-groove in a distinctly antipodean way. Features on Resident Advisor’s “Breaking Through” as one of the most exciting emerging artists of 2014, Fox is an accomplished DJ with wide-ranging taste.
Jonny Nash from United Kingdom
With releases on US label ESP Institute, Japan’s Crue-l recordings and his own imprint Melody As Truth, Jonny Nash has become known for his distinctive deep, ambient style. Nash also forms one third of the group “Gaussian Curve” alongside Young Marco from Netherland and Gigi Masin from Italy.
Jonathan Kusuma from Indonesia
Jakarta resident Jonathan Kusuma is one of Indonesia’s rising talents, with releases on domestic label Space Recs, as well as French label I’m A Cliche. Kusuma also forms one half of the due Space System.
Lady FLiC from New Zealand
Potato Head resident DJ and Music Director Lady FLiC is a skilled and versatile DJ who serves up an eclectic and always fresh mix ranging from electronic to organic, disco to dubstep, jazz to hip hop, soul to boogie, reggae to rock, proper house music to hands in the air party jams.
Hugo Capablanca from Germany
Hugo Capablanca is a charismatic and unorthodox DJ and producer. Resident at Berlin’s Salon Zur Wilde Renate, Capablanca fuses disco and psychedelic influences in his DJ sets and productions on labels such as Hivern Discs, Comeme and Correspondant.
