From the creator of digital television network over at QUBtv, Eric Liem and Tasya P Maulana recently uploaded their latest work for “A Small Talk” program featuring the members of local independent band known as The Upstairs. For your information, the band is probably one of the best thing that could ever happened to local music scene in Indonesia. The bad was founded in Jakarta on October 5th 2001 by the frontman and vocalist Jimi Multhazam and Kubil Idris who is the guitarist. This band is purely inspired by several new wave bands from abroad, such as Flock of Seagulls, Devo, Depeche Mode, to Joy Division. Few months later, the metal core drummer Beni Adhiantoro decided to join with the band. Later we knew, The Upstairs released their first EP dubbed as “Antahberantah” in cassette and CD format. At the time, there were only 300 pieces and it were sold out faster that they can imagined. The band later known as the King of Pentas Seni across major cities in Indonesia, such as Jakarta, Bandung, Jogjakarta, and many more.

Special for this exclusive interview, QUBtv asked a lot of question regarding a lot of things from why they decided to re-release the “Antahberantah” EP album, the music scene in Indonesia back in early 2000s, why did they wear such costumes, things that they would like to say through music, what they would like to say about their new identity, to their upcoming dream and future format of The Upstairs.
